Ruth Singer – Pain-free Project Planning

This session is aimed at anyone with an idea for a project but needs support to begin the planning process or makers who would like to begin generating projects themselves. Ruth Singer will lead an active creative project planning with a view to developing a funding application. The session will utilise Ruth’s creative projects planning toolkit to help you work out the structure of your project

Ruth Singer specialises in creating arts projects alongside partners including heritage and community organisations, universities and galleries. Over the last dozen years, Ruth has developed a niche in devising and getting funding for the kind of projects she wants to run with creative practice at their core. She has an established practice in textiles, exhibits widely and has won awards for her solo and collaborative work.

Crafts Council – An introduction to the Talent Development Team

This session is for students and emerging makers. Anne-Laure Cano from the Crafts Council’s Talent and Development team will provide an introduction to Crafts Council support and first steps in setting up a creative business. She will also introduce schemes such as Hothouse – their intensive development programme for emerging makers. Anne-Laure will also give general advice regarding what the Crafts Council are looking for from makers when they make applications.

The Crafts Council is the national development agency for the contemporary crafts in the UK. Their goal is to make the UK the best place to make, see, collect and learn about contemporary craft.

This session will be 30-40 minutes with some time for questions.

Design Nation – Programme and Membership Opportunities

Hayley Banks, Programme and Membership Manager, will present information on Design Nation’s programme including opportunities for makers. Design Nation is a membership organisation; Hayley will also outline the benefits and provide application forms and the criteria that Design Nation’s panel assesses against.

Design-Nation incorporating Design Factory is a membership network for designer-makers in the UK, with a national and international profile, activity programme and bespoke package of support and opportunities. Design-Nation’s portfolio of members offers a one stop destination for retailers, galleries, manufacturers, the public and press, together with industry professionals who want to commission, invest and source high quality, innovative and beautiful contemporary craft and design.

New Art West Midlands – An introduction

Craig Ashley, Director of New Art West Midlands will introduce the national network; its programme and opportunities, as well as focussing on the nuances of the West Midlands network. He will also advise on what they are looking for from applications when they have opportunities.

New Art West Midlands* is the Contemporary Visual Arts Network for the region. Their purpose is to strengthen and develop the contemporary visual arts sector in the West Midlands, working collectively to safeguard the future of artists and our sector as a whole.

Together with their partners, they create defining opportunities for artists and arts professionals to develop their practices through a distinctive, critically-engaged programme. Their programme strands include the annual New Art West Midlands exhibition for recent graduates, and Engine; region-wide professional development programme for artists and curators.
