The launch and prize winners!

Thank you to everyone who came to the Made in the Middle launch at The Herbert Art Gallery & Museum. It was a brilliant turn out and great to see so many of the exhibitors!

The prize winners!

For Made in the Middle there were four prizes and we were delighted to present them to the winners during the launch:

Best Newcomer sponsored by Craft&Design – Theo Wright

Innovation sponsored by Crafts Magazine and Craftspace- Aimee Bollu

One to Watch sponsored by Encraft – Interlace

Best Exhibitor sponsored by Fieldings Auctioneers – Clare Pentlow

Best Newcomer sponsored by Craft&Design – Theo Wright

Angie Boyer couldn’t be at the launch to award the prize herself but she says “Theo’s work fascinates me, his earlier training in computer science and his interest in technology and mathematics brings something quite unique to his weaving, a precision of design and making that together create intriguing, rhythmic patterns that are enhanced by his sensitive use of colour. The pieces in ‘When Waves Collide’, his hand woven collection for Made in the Middle, seem to almost have a three dimensional quality about them that I find both mesmerising and meditative.”

Innovation sponsored by Crafts Magazine and Craftspace – Aimee Bollu

Innovation prize donated by Crafts Magazine and Craftspace jointly is Aimee Bollu. An emerging maker who is inventive in her combination of materials and consistent in the quality of her work.

One to Watch sponsored by Encraft – Interlace

Encraft were honoured to attend and judge the ‘One to Watch’ prize, awarding Interlace the worthy winners of this prize with “amazing, unique work”. They also had a special mention for Sandra Owens’ work.

Best Exhibitor sponsored by Fieldings Auctioneers – Clare Pentlow

Will Farmer of Fieldings Auctioneers judged and awarded the ‘Best Exhibitor’ prize to Clare Pentlow. Will said he was stunned by the craftsmanship and intricacy of Clare’s works.
